Health Card Campaign

In January 2025, Manitoba launched a new, sustainable and modernized health card. The card now displays each person’s preferred official language: French or English. This innovation allows everyone to indicate the language in which they wish to be greeted when receiving health or social services.

The Health Card Campaign was launched in October 2025 to inform both the public and professionals about this important new feature. It includes two components:

Professional component – Différence en français

The awareness campaign for health and social service professionals builds on the existing Différence en français initiative, which already offers practical tools, videos and resources to help staff actively offer services in French regardless of their language level. Its goal is to inform professionals that the health card now displays the patient’s preferred official language and to encourage the active offer of services in French.

Public component – Je choisis le français

The Je choisis le français awareness campaign invites French-speaking Manitobans to apply for their new health card and select French as their preferred official language.

By choosing French, individuals help demonstrate that French-language services are valued and in demand while contributing to better planning for service delivery.

This initiative is led by Santé en français, Shared Health-Soins communs and the Société de la francophonie manitobaine. Together these partners are working to ensure that everyone can live their health fully in French.
